Award for young carer
AHEC service-user Ayeshah Rajaah Boota has received a Jack Petchey
Award for her outstanding commitment to her studies and her family.
Ayesha, who has a disability herself, is a carer for her mother and
also attends AHEC’s English and Maths tuition classes. A willing and
enthusiastic participant, she helps others with their work, and
assists with setting up the classes before the other students
arrive.
AHEC Director Christine Borsah commented: “Ayeshah has shown
extraordinary courage and commitment to her studies, and her English
and Maths have improved considerably since she started coming to
AHEC classes. We are thrilled that she has been awarded this
accolade.”
The Jack Petchey Achievement Awards aims to help youth clubs and
schools recognise young people who have shown particular growth and
achievement. In recognition of Ayeshah’s progress, the Awards gave
AHEC £200, which the charity used to buy a new printer.
