A word from the Board of
Trustees
2010 has been an exciting time for AHEC. Although
many of us have been hit hard by the credit crunch, our supporters
have shown unstinting commitment and dedication to our work in the
boroughs of Hackney, Newham, and Waltham Forest.
We have seen our Parental Programme, helping parents to become
involved and empowered in their local community, go from strength to
strength. The enthusiasm and support of parents were demonstrated in
their heavy involvement in the organisation and success of the
Christmas Party.
Our Summer School was a great success, helping young people to
explore their creativity through drama, dance and other art forms.
In March, we coordinated a landmark Ministry of Defence exhibition
titled We Were There, charting the contribution of Commonwealth
Countries to British defence over the past 250 years. This
exhibition was opened by the well-known BBC actor David Harewood,
and saw tremendous support and interest throughout the community.
We are also grateful to our funders: London Councils, London Borough
of Waltham Forest, BBC Children-in-Need, Lloyds TSB (Funder of our
Parental Programme), Jack Petchey and all those who supported in
diverse ways in making 2009 a success for AHEC. We look to their
continued and unflinching support in 2010.
I wish everyone a happy, prosperous and peaceful new year.
Issifu Kofi Yeboah
Vice Chair
