The AHEC Interview: Pamela Asamoah
Pamela Asamoah is a parent whose two daughters attend AHEC’s
after-school club, where they receive essential tutoring in English
and Maths skills. Here, she explains why AHEC is so important to her
family:
How long have your daughters been attending AHEC’s classes?
They have both been going for around a year now. My eldest is nine,
and my youngest is five. Both have shown a marked improvement in
their English and Maths skills since they started attending. I have
noticed this and so has their school.
What are the benefits of the after-school club?
Well, obviously it helps young people to improve their skills in
essential subjects. But it also gives them something to look forward
to after school. My girls attend on Wednesdays and Thursdays for two
hours, and they are always very keen to go – they actually want to
do their homework at the club! It’s great to have a free activity
that they can participate in.
What do you think the club means to the local community?
I know other people who use it also find it a really valuable
service. The kids get improvement and encouragement there, and it is
a useful facility for those members of the community who don’t speak
English well. The club is tremendously popular – we’ve just had a
Christmas party with lots of awards and presents for the children’s
hard work. It is really great for the community.
