Our history

AHEC started out as the African Children’s Club in 2001. Founded by Christine Borsah, its aim was to give a voice to young people in the community through music, dance, art, craft, drama and cultural awareness.

The club developed in 2007 to become the African Heritage and Educational Centre, to reflect the fact that it worked with people of all ages – from one month old to over a hundred! Under these two names, the club has worked with more than 5,000 people in North London, and raised over half a million pounds for local projects.

The introduction of the name AHEC also brought about a new logo. Our logo uses a West African Adrinka icon, known as Sankofa, which symbolises the importance of learning from the past.
